Donor Investment to Advance Student Innovation and Dementia Research

Brilliant Catalyst and Graduate Scholarship Funding Supports Impactful Discovery and Research

Breakthroughs in student-driven innovation and dementia care research are taking shape thanks to a generous philanthropic gift to Ontario Tech University.

Jeff Leung, visionary architect, entrepreneur and community leader, has made a dual-purpose contribution that will empower student ventures designed to solve real-world challenges and support ethical health research.

Half of the gift supports Brilliant Catalyst, Ontario Tech’s entrepreneurship and innovation hub. The funding will expand programming, mentorship, and venture development for student innovators addressing today’s critical issues, from health care to sustainability and digital inclusion.

“At Brilliant Catalyst, students can turn their ideas into real impact,” says Connor Loughlean, Manager, Programs and Operations – Brilliant Catalyst. “This gift allows us the flexibility to offer mentorship, connections and funding at crucial moments.”

Brilliant Catalyst inspires and supports entrepreneurs by connecting them with experts, advisors andinfluencers to drive innovation and put more Canadian ventures on the map. Its tailored programs help Ontario Tech’s diverse and creative community exploreideas, build skills and launch their entrepreneurial journeys.

The remaining half of the gift will establish the Jeff W.N. Leung Scholarship, supporting eight graduate students over four years in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The awards will prioritize eligible students researching dementia-related topics, including those under the leadership of Dr. Winnie Sun, Ontario Tech Research Excellence Chair and Co-Director of the university’s Advancement for Dementia Care Centre.

“I believe in championing the people who are creating solutions that will shape a more compassionate and innovative future,” says Jeff Leung. “I am pleased to support the next generation of change-makers and improving care for aging populations.”

This contribution supports the university’s Tech with a Conscience campaign, the largest fundraising initiative in Ontario Tech’s history. With a $250 million goal, the campaign champions ethical innovation, reimagined learning, inclusive campus experiences and strategic partnerships.

Thank you, Jeff Leung, for investing in Ontario Tech.
